When the design of a space is contingent on dozens of invisible but connected factors that are tweaked to either fit, avoid or complement each other; there is a certain delight to walking into such a space and not being able to put your finger on exactly what makes it work. Design isn't just visual, it has to be all pervasive and functional too.

The intent throughout this design process was to maximise green garden spaces across the property and give every resident the ability to visually access them from within their villa. This wouldn't be possible if we didn't work hard to reduce the footprint of motorable roads within the property. We chose to cobble all the motorable roads to subtly impel a driver to slow down his vehicle. This helped us do away with the unsightly black tarmac roads, so we deliberately blended the cobbled roads and the pedestrian pathways with the landscaping. We were also able to tuck away the car parks for most of the villas. So if you walk down any road in Alanoville, its reminiscent of walking through a finely detailed formal landscape and you're less likely to see cars punctuating your view. We have retained the natural topography of the land and ended up using it to our advantage by planning the drainage system to utilise its natural slope.
